Glad you enjoyed the roast Jessica. The marinara does give it more of an Italian flavor.

Hi Jessica – no need to use the trivet with this recipe. Enjoy!

Personally I would throw in some onion garlic carrots potatoes and celery with some herbs like thyme and rosemary. Would make it 10X better than this white person seasoned recipe. Just salt and pepper, really?

When my children were growing up one of my favorite things to do was to bake a frozen chuck roast in a cast iron dutch oven. I would slice a large onion and place it in the dutch oven, put the roast on top of it, add one cup of red wine, salt, pepper and garlic, cover the dutch oven and roast it for several hours at 275 degees. It always came out so tender and flavorful. Made a great gravy, sometimes I would add mushrooms or a carrot or two. Now I can’t wait to try your recipe for frozen Beef Roast in the Instant Pot. We are never too old to learn new tricks.

Hi Shery – gravy often contains thickeners that can interfere with pressure cooking so gravy probably isn’t a good option. Lipton onion soup mix with 1 cup of beef broth would be a good tomato-free option.

Hi Christine – a cabernet works well.
